The instructor for this program contacted me with hopes that I would shine some light on the English language learning program and citizenship classes the college offers. During the interview I realized the most interesting part of the story was her personal experiences in becoming a citizen. The story also ran while the topic of immigration is very hot.

The city of Ottumwa held a loose meat sandwich eating contest over the summer. I decided to make the story into a nat sound package as a way to put the viewer in the position of someone who attended the event.

A viewer called into the station and informed our news team that Ms. mason’s granddaughter was battling cancer. I focused the story on how the students were doing everything they could to show their teacher that they support her.

This record shop is well-known in the Kirksville area, but I decided to do a feature piece on it because of the way they are shifting to digital. There has also been an increase in vinyl sales in the past few years, so a story about a long-standing record shop was appealing to our younger audience.
